Description: Cygwin is a Unux emulation environment for MS Windows, and comes with an almost complete set of Linux software packages ready built.

It also comes with GCC (et al) so that you can build many Unux software packages to run on Windows.

Works best with NT, 2000 or XP. I would not recommend arlier "toy" versions of Windows (e.g. 98/ME).

Excellent quality, and very stable. In some cases the Cygwin version of a package is better than the the native Windows version.
