7Zip

Description: 7-Zip is a file archiver with the highest compression ratio. The program supports 7z, ZIP, RAR, CAB, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR formats. Compression ratio in the new 7z format is 30-50% better than ratio in ZIP format. 7-Zip has powerful command line version.

EZ TAR
Description: The only free application I found that could create tar files, got good reviews, and had a decent website was TUGZip. Unfortunately, it was buggy and difficult to figure out. So much for research. I ended up creating the EZ TAR interface. You need to install tar separately if the tar command doesn''t already work at your command line.
