  OpenSSH  Popular
Description: OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH protocol suite of network connectivity tools that increasing numbers of people on the Internet are coming to rely on. Many users of telnet, rlogin, ftp, and other such programs might not realize that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides a myriad of secure tunneling capabilities, as well as a variety of authentication methods.

  TrueCrypt
Description: Disk encryption for Windows XP/2000/2003 (Linux version planned). It can create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a real disk. It can encrypt an entire hard disk partition or a device, such as USB memory stick, floppy disk, etc. Provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password: 1) Hidden volume (more information may be found at http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/hiddenvolume.php ) 2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (TrueCrypt volumes cannot be distinguished from random data).
