Organisations using the programming language Python will be majorly affected by changes in store for the language over the course of the next twelve months, Linux.conf.au attendees were told this morning.
The Python development community is working towards a new, backwards incompatible version of the language, version 3.0, which is slated for release in early 2009.

Coverity, which creates automated source-code analysis tools, announced late Monday its first list of open-source projects that have been certified as free of security defects.
Eleven projects made the list: Amanda, NTP, OpenPAM, OpenVPN, Overdose, Perl, PHP, Postfix, Python, Samba, and TCL.

This latest version builds on the successful 5.8.x series by adding powerful new language features and improving the Perl interpreter itself. The Mono Project on Feb. 20 announced that it has developed a Visual Basic compiler that will enable software developers who use Microsoft Visual Basic to run their applications on any platform that supports Mono, such as Linux, without any code modifications.
