Go is a new programming language from Google that aims for performance that is nearly comparable to C, but with more expressive syntax and faster compilation. What it won't do, however, is liberate the coding masses from bracist tyranny. Google's Go is yet another take on C.

From the Shining Gems dept.:
This is the first stable release of Ruby 1.9 series.

Ruby 1.9 is a new series of Ruby. It is modern, faster, with clearer syntax, multilingualized and much improved version of Ruby. Ruby 1.8 series has been used since 2003 and many great products were born on it. Today Ruby 1.9 series starts its history as 1.8 series did.

Notice that Ruby 1.8 still remains. 1.8.8 will be released this year.

Perl 5.8.9 Released: Languages Posted by: comforteagle

From the Still Slogging it Out dept.:
We have only limited volunteer labour, and the maintenance burden is getting increasingly complex. Hence this will be the last significant release of the 5.8.x series. Any future releases of 5.8.x will likely only be to deal with security issues, and platform build failures. Therefore you should look to migrating to 5.10.x, if you have not started already.

Python 3.0 Final Relased: Languages Posted by: comforteagle

From the SSSSssssss dept.:
Python 3.0 (a.k.a. "Python 3000" or "Py3k") represents a major milestone in Python's history, and was nearly three years in the making. This is a new version of the language that is incompatible with the 2.x line of releases, while remaining true to BDFL Guido van Rossum's vision. Some things you will notice include:

* Fixes to many old language warts
* Removal of long deprecated features and redundant syntax
* Improvements in, and a reorganization of, the standard library
* Changes to the details of how built-in objects like strings and
dicts work
* ...and many more new features
