I agree,
This is how I see myself working even in windows. I don't let the user decide what to use. We evaluate his/her suggestions and then decide to implement them when we know the risk, benefits and the costs.
What I miss here is the cost of backup and restoration. On Linux I have the users yesterday's version of his documents in a read only archive in his own account. Were he/she can easily find his files as they were yesterday. This is separate from the other backup systems but does give the user a great advantage and has significantly reduced the calls for backup retrieval to the help desk.
We also like the ability to easily customize the theming of the start up screen to the login screen to the desktop environment. The extend to which you can theme the Linux desktop amazes everyone especially the CEO and CIO when I first pitched Linux as a desktop solution.
