i admit that a bleeding-edge laptop is not the best platform for any linux. but i hadn't used redhat since v7.x or so (before fedora in any case) and hadn't tried suse for many years so thought i'd give it another shot. the v9.2 pro box promised wireless and bluetooth support, so i was hoping more of my laptops features would work than proved to be the case.

i thought about using my telephone support to ask about some of these items, but the two times i called with installation questions they didn't inspire much confidence. one of my questions was about the promised ability to shrink my windows partition to allow for the suse partition and they admitted that procedure was buggy and a gamble. i ended up with using partition magic instead.

in between suse installs i tried out xandros which was the first linux distro i would recommend to a non-geek friend. it was very slick indeed, but not to the taste of those that love to experiment and tweak. also, it didn't pretend to support most of the laptops newest features and didn't get the resolution right either but it did have quite a bit better apm.

btw--as you suspected, the comparison to redhat config manager was a joke--i thought vi was how everyone configured redhat! [g]
